Is video game addiction a mental disorder?

I have to tell you - I played a few all-nighters of Commander Keen and Lode Runner back in the day. No worries - that’s fun enough.  I think there were 3 all-nighters I can remember between the ages of 14-16.  Back then I knew people who did it night after night.  Back then I referred to them as losers.  I feel the same today.

FYI: Someone told me about a tennis partner they occasionally play with who - between every game checks his Blackberry and replies to messages - he’s a loser too.

If you watch 2 hours of TV every night - loser.  “But it’s my escape.”  Exactly!!  Quit escaping and engage.

I am surprised at the grown adults I know who have checked out of direct face-to-face relationships for video games, TV, alcohol, drugs, etc.

Too a “T” when I start discussing things with these people - life in general - they talk about a desire to be different.  This is true, for instance, of people who talk frequently about wanting to get in shape.  Then, they proceed to tell me about this show and that show - shows they just love.  Hint: It is difficult to lose weight, eating buttered popcorn in front of your TV.

Eventually, they turn to Alli and are relegated to wearing dark pants because of their oily anal discharge.  You have got to be kidding me.  You would rather have an oily anal discharge than extend some control over your life.

I heard a phrase - at some motivational deal years ago - but I believe it is true…

When your dreams and goals are more important to you than the obstacles you face, you will overcome the obstacles and achieve your dreams and goals.

Paraphrased:
Don’t be a loser and make excuses for your loserness…  Do something proactive.

I agree. People are checking out of life at an alarming rate.
People would rather do something in a video game than do the same thing in real life.

I wanted to become more healthy so what did I do? I started exercising! What an igenious concept.
Many others would sit and complain that this or that makes it too difficult.

I say turn the TV off altogether. There is just junk on it anyways.

I know someone who has two small kids (5 and 7). EVERY night he and his wife play WoW and their kids watch
TV. The kids know the routine. When one movie is over they go get another.
Those kids will be the losers of the next generation.

I think that is amazingly sad.

i think that people should watch tv just not to much. television teaches little children(programs like arthur teaches responsibility and truthfulness, Barny teaches alot of things such as reading)
