Working as an independent songwriter/performer means you are, for the most part, your own public relations department, marketing department, administrative assistant, roadie, booking agent, producer, sound engineer, merchandiser, coach and counselor, limo driver (my limo looks a lot like a Toyota Camry these days), etc.

Hey, I was told that if you don’t ask, the answers always no.  And if you do ask, the answer is usually no - but that’s okay, there are other ways to help…

Host a House Concert
If you are unfamiliar with the term, it is where a musician/singer/songwriter (ME) performs a show in your living room (or other suitable area) for you and 20, 30, 40, or 80 of your closest friends.

I help with all details and you will be surprised at how easy and low-maintenance it can be.

Suggest or refer me to a venue in your area
You know your town far better than I do.  Let me know where songwriters play in your town.  Better yet, recommend me to the venue directly.  And when I do play there, invite a few folks to come out.

Join the street team
Free music & merchandise, special invitations to events and my undying gratitude.  A little involvement goes a long way.

Spread the word
If you enjoyed seeing me play, hearing a song, etc. - you probably know someone else who might enjoy the same.  Spread the word, link them to my myspace - get them to sign up on my site.  Write a blog about it.  Write about me!  Is that narcissistic enough?

Become a billboard
That’s right - buy a shirt or other item - buy two and give one away.  You probably need a shirt or two anyway - this kills two birds with one stone.
